Shaftesbury is at the junction of the A350 and the A30 – follow the signs to the town centre and car parks. Most car parks are within walking distance of the town centre. Free parking is available in the car park adjacent to the Shaftesbury Town Silver Band HQ, near Ivy Cross Roundabout.

The Town Hall is at the top end of the High Street. On either side of the Town Hall cobbled walkways lead down to Gold Hill: steps to the left, past the entrance to St Peter’s Church, and quite a steep cobbled ramp to the right. Wheelchair users may need assistance in negotiating this slope. It is possible to drive small vehicles up Gold Hill to disembark disabled passengers, but there is no parking and only limited space to turn at the top. It can also be full of sightseers at the height of summer. Gold Hill Museum is at the top of the hill behind the Town Hall.

Coach Parking

There are a marked drop-off point and two spaces for coach parking in the Bell Street car park. There is further parking at Longmead and Coppice Street. The Royal Chase Hotel also offer coach parking from Sunday to Friday (Saturdays by prior arrangement).

Gold Hill Museum is owned and managed by volunteers of Shaftesbury & District Historical Society, and relies on donations for most of its income.
